What is Lymphedema Therapy?

Manual Lymph Drainage

Otherwise known as MLD, manual lymph drainage can be a highly beneficial treatment for those nearing the end as it is a very soft and rhythmic like touch providing deep relaxation and a direct analgesic ( pain reducing ) effect.

Many common diseases when in the final stages may cause edema or fluid build up,  which often times is painful due to pressure under the skin. The gentle, rhythmic movements used in MLD stimulate the lymphatic system, promoting the removal of excess fluid and inflammation via detox pathways. Great relief can be felt when manually shifting this fluid. For patients who may be immobile for a significant amount of time, MLD can also improve circulation and prevent skin issues such as bed and pressure sores.

Key Benefits Include:

  • Reduces Swelling and Fluid Retention
  • Natural Analgesic ( reduces pain )
  • Improves Circulation
  • Relieves Pain from Inflammation
  • Enhances Mobility
  • Prevents Skin Breakdown
  • Improves Comfort and Relaxation
  • Offers Emotional and Psychological Support

I am able to provide the added beneficial services of grooming and cleansing which can play a vital role in enhancing the dying patients physical comfort and emotional well-being. These services help maintain hygiene, prevent infections, and alleviate discomfort caused by dry or irritated skin.  Regular grooming including hair care, nail trimming, and moisturizing fosters a sense of dignity and normalcy, allowing patients to feel more like themselves despite their illness. Beyond physical care, these services provide emotional comfort, as the act of being cared for in such a personal way can be soothing and reassuring.  The simple act of a face cleansing can restore a significant sense of dignity during a deeply challenging time.  Such gentle gestures of love contribute to a higher quality of life, affirming one's value and worth as they approach the end of life.
